What do I need to set up my Homecharge install?

BP Chargemaster tethered Homecharge unit

To make sure your Homecharge installation goes ahead with as little delay as possible, here are some examples of what BP Chargemaster needs to get started.

Once you’ve completed your Homecharge application via the form on the Homecharge section of our website, you’ll receive a call from one of our advisers to discuss the best Homecharge option for you.

The adviser will ask some questions about your property and charging requirements to make sure you have the best unit for your needs installed and there is as little delay as possible:

Here are some examples of questions you’ll be asked:

  • Property type and parking

The adviser will need to know what type of property you own/live in (detached, mid terraced etc.) and the type of off-street parking you have.
A survey or further documentation may be required if your parking is underground or allocated parking that is not near the property or if the installation could be potentially complicated; title register and title plan will be required for this type of allocated parking.

Please note there must not be a public/communal footpath between the parking space and where the Homecharge unit is located as this could impose a potential trip hazard.

  • Fuse box/consumer unit location

You will need to confirm where your main fuse box/consumer unit is located in the property.
The adviser will advise how cables will be run internally and externally if applicable and will establish which rooms the supply cable will need to run through.

They will also ask if the property has a second fuse box/consumer unit and if that would be preferred, as well as where it is sourced from.

  • Main meter

The adviser will also need to know where your main electricity meter (main incoming supply) is located.

  • MPAN number
  • Where you would like your Homecharge unit installed
  • Distance between the proposed supply (fuse box, consumer unit/meter) location to your preferred location of the Homecharge unit. Add an extra 3 metres for bends and terminations.
